I started working on anaerobic microbiology at Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, India. The main research focus at ARI was on diversity of anaerobic microbes (anaerobic fungi, bacteria and methanogens), efficient biodegradation and bioenergy production.

In 2018, I got an opportunity to work on methanotrophs at Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai (IITB). This project was in collaboration with Praj industries (Pune) for pilot scale trials.

In this PhD project, we aim to investigate the syntrophic interaction of anaerobic fungi with methanogens and to establish the method for semi-continuous cultivation of anaerobic fungi.

We are a team of scientists from Austria, Germany and Switzerland working closely together combining microbiology, biotechnology and bioinformatics to investigate potential benefits deriving from the biotechnological usage of anaerobic fungi.
